Abstrak

This research was motivated by several issues identified at MAN 3 Indragiri Hilir, particularly in the Islamic Cultural History (SKI) subject for Grade X. In the learning process conducted at MAN 3 Indragiri Hilir, teachers had not yet implemented the Historical Group Research learning model. Although several other learning models were frequently used, they had not effectively sharpened students' historical thinking skills. This resulted in several students scoring below the predetermined targets and others struggling to comprehend or reflect on the values of historical events. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether there is a significant influence of the Historical Group Research learning model on students' historical thinking skills in Islamic Cultural History at MAN 3 Indragiri Hilir. This study is a quantitative research employing a Quasi-Experimental method with a Pre-test and Post-test Group Design. The research consists of two variables: the independent variable, which is the Historical Group Research (HGR) learning model, and the dependent variable, which is historical thinking skills. Data collection techniques included multiple-choice tests and observations of both teachers and students. The population of this study consisted of 48 students divided into two classes of 24 students each; these classes were categorized into a control group and an experimental group. Based on the data analysis and discussion, the results of this study indicate that the application of the Historical Group Research (HGR) learning model significantly influences students' historical thinking skills. This is supported by the results of the Independent Sample T-test, which yielded a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001. Based on the decision-making criteria where a sig value < 0.05 indicates a significant difference, the findings show a discrepancy in comprehension scores between the experimental class using the HGR model and the control class using the conventional learning model. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of the Historical Group Research (HGR) learning model on students' historical thinking skills.
