Abstrak

This study was motivated by the low learning motivation of students in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), particularly in understanding Islamic history, which is often considered difficult and monotonous. One effort to improve students’ learning motivation is the application of the time line method. This method was chosen because it combines visual and chronological elements, enabling students to understand the sequence of events more easily and engage actively in the learning process. The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of the time line method in PAI learning and to analyze its impact on students’ learning motivation. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Kecamatan Akabiluru, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that the application of the time line method created a more engaging, interactive, and enjoyable learning atmosphere. Students found it easier to understand the material as it was presented in a structured, visual, and contextual manner. Moreover, students became more motivated to actively ask questions, participate in discussions, and express their opinions in class. Thus, the time line method can be considered an effective alternative teaching strategy in PAI to foster students’ learning motivation. The implication of this study is that PAI teachers are expected to be more creative in selecting innovative methods to create a more conducive and enjoyable learning environment while enhancing students’ active participation.
