Abstrak

This research is based on the discovery of several problems at MTsN 4 Pasaman, specifically in the subject of aqidah and akhlak in class VIII. In the teaching and learning process, problems were found, namely the low willingness to read among students, seen when the teacher asked students to read, only some read, then the low understanding of students towards the learning material, seen when students were asked to convey what they understood, only some understood, in addition, teachers also still use conventional learning models and have not been optimal in varying them, namely tending to use lectures in learning. This has an impact on students where they are easily bored and not focused on learning. So a learning model is needed that can improve students' reading literacy skills. This study aims to determine how much influence the SQ4R learning model has in improving students' reading literacy skills. This type of research is experimental research and the author uses a quasi-experimental research method. The research design is a pretest posttest control group design, the research population is all VIII grades totaling 170 people, sampling using random sampling techniques in two classes, namely the experimental class VIII.3 and the control class. This study consists of 2 variables of the SQ4R learning model (independent variable X) reading literacy ability (dependent variable Y). The data collection technique is carried out using test techniques. The test technique in this study is carried out by giving a pretest and posttest of 25 questions. This is used to obtain data on students' reading literacy abilities through learning outcomes, then see the effect between the use of the SQ4R model and the conventional model after being given a posttest. To analyze the data, a t-test is used for samples originating from different distributions Independent samples T-Test. the basis for decision making if the sig (2-tailed) value> 0.05, then Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected, if the sig (2-tailed) value <0.05 then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The results of the data calculation show that the sig(2-tailed) value is 0.000 < 0.05 or t-count = 4.564 > t-table = 1.667. This means that the t-count value is greater than the t-table value both at the 5% level.The recapitulation results show that the average reading literacy skills of males and females in the experimental class were 86.82 for males and 87.33 for females, while in the control class, the average was 78.57 for males and 81.27 for females. Overall, the average for the experimental class was 87.09 and the average for the control class was 80.34, indicating an 8.40% difference between the two classes. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the SQ4R learning model significantly improved students' reading literacy skills in the subject of aqidah and akhlak (faith and morals) in grade VIII MTsN 4 Pasaman.
